David Root
TENOR
Hailed by the New York Times for his fine singing, tenor David Root’s voice has also been called fresh and mellifluous by The Cleveland Plain Dealer. A native of Northeastern Ohio, David holds a Bachelor of Music from Kent State University and a Master of Music from The Cleveland Institute of Music. As a soloist David has performed leading roles with companies such as Nevada Opera, NY Gilbert & Sullivan Players, and Lyric Opera Cleveland. His concert repertoire ranges from Bach cantatas to Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex.
Mr. Root has sung with many of New York City’s finest ensembles including Voices of Ascension, Musica Sacra, Early Music New York, Gallileo’s Daughters, The Marble Choir, and the Associate Chorus of New York City Opera. He was a member of the widely acclaimed professional ensemble The Choir of St. Luke in the Fields from 2010 through 2024 and continues to appear with the ensemble as guest soloist and performer. He sang with the Phoenix Quartet for over a decade. At home in Ohio, David is very proud to have been a member of The Robert Page Singers, later renamed The Cleveland Singers, from 1990 to 1996.
Discography includes the world premiere recording of Randall Thompson’s The Nativity According to St. Luke as the angel Gabriel (Koch Classics International), as well as several recordings with The Choir of St. Luke in the Fields and The Phoenix Quartet.
